Key Factors in SEO

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

There are various factors which one has to keep in mind while doing SEO. Some of them are:

Tag the web pages with relevant keywords: This is a very important aspect of Search Engine Optimization. One has to be very careful while optimizing a website. One must put relevant keywords in title tags, as Google crawlers/spiders visit the page, read Title & Meta tags and then index it. Title tag should be 10 to 60 characters and should not contain special characters. The title tag is like the title of a book and one of the most important factors in achieving better search engine rankings. One needs to do extensive keyword research for getting high rankings. Putting relevant tags along with relevant keywords within page HTML can bring higher traffic to the website. Hence in order to get better rankings one should tag all the pages of a website with appropriate keywords. You may use the Siteopsys SEO Evaluation Tools for further analysis of a website.

Creation of Sitemap: Sitemap is an internal page of a website containing links to almost all pages of a website. We can say a Sitemap gives the whole structure of a website. Sitemap plays a very important role in SEO and also helps Google crawlers/spiders to visit the website internally and index all the pages of the website. It helps in generating higher traffic to the website. Sitemap has to be updated according to the changes made in a website. For example, if you add one more page to the website, Sitemaps (both HTML & XML) should also be updated. You can use the Website Evaluation Tools for further analysis of XML Sitemap and the website.

Optimization for the right keywords: If you are trying to optimize keywords that are not relevant or too generic (commonly used words), it is very difficult to achieve success even with dedicated SEO efforts. By doing so you will waste your time and get yourself into a more competitive place with other optimizers. Primarily one should do an extensive research by spending more time on research, looking for keywords with lesser competition but relevant to the business. You can find out some useful information on keywords with the help of Siteopsys Keyword Analysis Tools.

Internal Linking: A website should be interlinked well. It should be like a complete unit or a proper wheel. Proper internal-linking of a website keeps the users and crawlers interested. The internal linking should be like a map so that it can lead the way for both Google bots as well as users.

Consistent Link Building: Being a Search Engine Optimizer one should know the value of link building. Link building is a process of establishing more incoming links to a particular website. Links from relevant and high PR sites definitely give an advantage. Quality inbound links help a website to achieve higher rankings. Link building should be a continuous process in order to be effective. If not done frequently, it will not bring desired results. Excessive cross-linking should also be avoided. Hence one should build links consistently by using directory submissions, blog commenting, article marketing and other common platforms that other optimizers in the industry also use. One can also submit website’s link to some main directories such as DMOZ, Yahoo Directory, etc. The Link Analysis Tools at Siteopsys can assist you well with Link Analysis.

Constant Modification of Content: Search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing have their own algorithms which check new content regularly. This is just like a vegetable seller checks the vegetables and makes sure that you get fresh vegetables. Google and other major search engines have built processes to make sure that the newest relevant content should come on top of the search rankings. If one does not have enough content on the website, one should try to add more content so that the website can become content rich. If the content of a website is outdated, search engines will not visit the website very often, which ultimately stops it from getting higher rankings. Hence, try and update the content on a regular basis and be in the top search engine rankings.

Wish you Good Luck!

Tips for writing Title Tags

Friday, October 8th, 2010

Search Engine Rankings depend upon various parameters. One of the important factors which can directly affect search engine rankings is Title Tag of a Webpage. The title tag has been one of the most important factors in achieving high search engine rankings.

The HTML Title tag is used to define the text in the top line of a Web browser, also used by many search engines as the title of search listings. As the Title Tags are visible in search listings, using relevant phrases becomes vital. A proper keyword analysis should be done, so that the Phrase can support keywords used by web user.

Let’s say the website for which Title Tags have to be made, is into Car Rental business. The Title Tag Phrase for this website could be like Cheap California Car Rental. Else if one wishes to target a specific market, the Title Tags could be like San Francisco Car Rental. One can also join two or more Key Phrases into a single Title, like in the example used; the Title could be like Cheap Car Rental – California Car Rental – San Francisco Car Rental. The easy way to use common keywords in Titles is to separate them by using Hyphens (-).

Before one decides a Title Phrase, the content to be published on the web page should be created. Once the content is ready, one can easily make a list of important keywords which can be used to make a Title Phrase in a better way.

The Title Tags are as important as the web page text and the links pointing to the web pages – perhaps even more. This is why Title Tag should be looked into during optimization process. You may use the Meta Tag Analyzer to check the Title Tags and other Meta Tags, once you’ve written them for the pages, to verify their compliance to the standards.

Social Media Optimization: An Emerging Way to Promote Business

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Social media is one of the most important aspects of search engine optimization. One can see the popularity of numerous social networking sites online and with each day such sites as well as their users are growing rapidly. The technology used in such sites is advanced and regularly updated. The cost of being part of such networking sites is nothing. Using such networking sites or social sites to promote your website or products and services is called Social Media Optimization.

Social media is today’s internet culture. With the help of social media sites people are getting a very good platform to become more and more social, more interactive and more communicative. Use of social media allows you to discover and read the information/content along with sharing your ideas.

The most important thing about social media is its two-way communication process. You share some important content and in reply you get valuable information. One of the interesting facts which make social media a boon to marketing is that many social networks are connecting across multiple sites now.

As new generation does not want to follow the old traditional ways/forms of media, they find social networking (specially Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Forums, Blogs) to be more meaningful, attractive and the ‘in thing’ these days.

For example, new generation is less interested in relating themselves with traditional radio or newsprint. If they want information they access it online. Social media allows them to efficiently spread the word and generate curiosity and interest for a relatively known or a new product or service.

Social Media Optimizers can use the reputation of their websites for improved business opportunities. Social Networking Sites are increasing day by day with the number of their potential users. The user needs his Computer and an Internet connection – that is the only requirement to be a part of any social networking site. You can promote your website, your business and your products through these sites.

No wonder it is one of the most popular and cost effective form of promotions these days!
